SLAS2018 Short Courses

Advanced Flow Cytometry

The advanced course will expand into advanced areas many of which are leading-edge applications or expansions of current technology. These will include high throughput screening, advanced multiparameter analysis, spectral technologies, cell sorting and clinical and environmental (microbial) applications for example. This course will provide the audience with a strong background level of understanding of the technology, current limitations, and the future opportunities.

Who Should Attend:

  • Those interested in expanding their knowledge in general analytical tools.
  • Sales and Marketing people in competing fields.
  • Scientists who are interested in developing new knowledge.

Those interested in the following tracks:

How You Will Benefit From This Course:

  • This will equip individuals with a solid core knowledge in flow cytometry.

Course Topics:

  • Cell Sorting — introduction through to advanced applications of cell sorting discussing opportunities for stem cell sorting, as well as therapeutic applications.
  • Advanced concepts in flow cytometry
  • Advanced Data Processing
  • Spectral flow cytometry
  • Analysis of extracellular vesicles and other nano-particles
  • High Throughput flow cytometry

J. Paul Robinson
Purdue University

J. Paul Robinson is the SVM Professor of Cytomics and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. He has been involved in developing and using flow cytometers for over 35 years. For the past 27 years he has been teaching graduate courses in the field. He has edited 9 book focused on flow cytometry technologies and he is the editor in chief of Current Protocols in Cytometry.

John Nolan

John Nolan
Scintillon Institute

John Nolan is a Professor at the Scintillon Institute, where his group develops new cytometry instrumentation and applications. He was previously Director of the National Flow Cytometry Resource and is on the editorial boards of Cytometry and Current Protocols in Cytometry. He regularly teaches on cytometry topics via short courses and webinars and helps lead CYTO University, the online education effort of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).
